Adoption Through
Mannered Mutts
At Mannered Mutts, we believe some dogs just need the right environment, guidance, and chance to shine. Through our partnership with Monroe County Humane Association, we take in dogs who may have had a harder time finding homes or who would benefit from extra support before adoption. These dogs stay with us at no cost while we work with them one on one to help them grow, build confidence, and show off who they really are.
Every dog’s needs look a little different. Some need help learning how to settle and relax after spending long periods in stressful environments. Some need confidence building and positive exposure to new people, places, and experiences alongside a trainer they trust. Others simply need structure, routine, and an outlet for all of their excitement and energy. Our goal is never to change who these dogs are, it is to help them feel understood, supported, and set up for success when the right family comes along.
If you see a dog on this page or on our social media that you would like to meet, we would love to help you connect with them. You can contact us directly or reach out to Monroe County Humane Association to learn more or schedule a meet and greet.
Adoptable Dogs

Meet Tex!
Tex is a 5 year old German Shepherd currently living his best foster life at Mannered Mutts Training in Bloomington, Indiana while he waits for his forever home through Owen County Humane Society. And according to Tex, there are a few things potential adopters should know upfront. First of all, he brings a lot to the table. Mostly the ball. Constantly, actually.
Fetch is not just a hobby for Tex, it is a full time commitment. Throw the ball once and he is immediately locked in like this is a professional sport and he is trying to secure MVP status. Every return is immediate, efficient, and incredibly serious. No wandering off, no making you go pick it up yourself, no losing interest halfway through. Tex believes in commitment, and he would happily keep a game of fetch going long after your shoulder starts regretting your decisions. Outside of his athletic career, Tex is an incredibly social dog who genuinely loves being around other dogs. He walks into group play like he was personally invited by every single dog there and immediately assumes everyone is his friend. He has also lived with older kids and loves being included in whatever is going on, especially if snacks, toys, or outdoor adventures are involved. Tex is smart, food motivated, toy motivated, and recently discovered that learning things comes with rewards, which has apparently transformed him into a dedicated scholar overnight. He is crate trained, thrives with structure, and has made huge progress once clear expectations and consistency were introduced into his life. Like a lot of dogs, Tex has a past that shaped him. He came from a hoarding situation in 2022 and later struggled when suddenly left alone without much transition or guidance. At the time, he coped by making a few questionable home renovation choices involving doors and drywall. Since then, he has learned structure, routine, and how to make much better decisions with the right support system in place. He has truly come a long way. Tex would do best with someone who understands that German Shepherds are intelligent, active dogs who thrive when given guidance, consistency, and an outlet for both their brains and energy. Daily exercise is important, and yes, he would like to remind everyone that fetch absolutely counts. He is loyal, friendly, endlessly entertaining, and just the right amount of chatty. Occasionally he may offer a bark or a dramatic little “boof” to share his thoughts on a situation, but he prefers to think of it as quality commentary rather than excessive noise.
